Horses in Canada suffer

We all know how cold it can get in Canada. Heck most of the time if it just gets down in the 30's I am freezing and trying to keep the water pipes from freezing in our barn. Horses need shelter from the wind and need water. The video below is about a children's camp in Canada that is run by a church that just plain doesn't give a rats ass about the horses it owns. They are out in sub-below freezing temperatures at night with no shelter and no water at all. Any Canadian readers out there wish to comment? I would love to know more about this situation.

They have 'camps' in several locations. As do several other 'curch' groups within the maritimes. Truthfully though the horses in the video looked ok. But yes they should have water, and a good shelter if they cannot go into a barn.

Im more appaled by the SPCA lady that wants all the horses in box stalls with a heated tack room? First off what does the heated tack room have to do with the horses, and not everyone can afford box stalls. But they should def. have a place out of the wind!

Justaplainsam,

I completely agree with you on this. Horses can handle the cold if they are watered and fed well and don't have any other conditions that prevent them from being warm. Ours stayed out in -20 F weather for many years with no problems. However, this is just sad. The horses don't have shelter and don't have water!

As for box stalls and a heated tack room, that's just silly!
